Greeting all from a long time lurker. I've been sitting in the shadows of the forum for some time now until the thought struck me 'why not be active'.

Of the warbands that I chose to play are generally the best at what they do and lack maneuverability. I am currently using an ostlander and cult of the possessed warband and I'm looking forward to playing chaos mauraders in the near future.

I'm an avid terrain and scenery builder but the structures I make are made for practicality and not looks. So long as it has 4 (or less) walls then its good enough to field.

I look forward to being an active contributer to this forum.

I'd like to post up some photos of the bits and pieces I've made for our board but sadly I don't have a camera. Ludicrous I know.

I CAN identify. Not ONLY does my Demonically Possessed Camera from HELL hate me & takes photos of ASTOUNDING MEDIOCRITY, but the whole posting process is SO TOTALY beyond my senility bound ability to comprehend, that I bribe, wheedle, & guilt trip to get photos posted...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this method. Welcome!

If you want to snap a few shots, see if you can borrow a camera from a friend or family member - chances are someone you know has a camera that you can use.

I'd like to start painting again since I lost most of my mini's and paints, but its a hard knock life to get your supplies back up when you're a poor uni student and GW prices are through the roof. $5 (aus) per tiny jar of paint!?
Of the mini's I did salvage were a handful of pink tau warriors with playboy motif. 'And' and his greenskins gave me the inspiration to try and start painting a marauders army either focused arround tzeech or khorne as I'm a fan of blues, reds and golds.

I'll see what I can do about borrowing a camera off a family member, Two of my sisters are photographers so you'd think they'd have a camera.

Edit: such a great supporting community. Of the odds and ends that I've made for scenery much of it is to replace the cardboard cut outs from the original mordheim starter box we have. So when I have substituted most of the buildings I'll do my best to add some colour to the white styrofoam
> . < Sorry bugle, It's hardly beautiful.

Double edit: I just checked the prices for paints, $6!?!? How does GW get away with this? When I first started plainting (2003) they were $4 each and even then I thought it was a bit much.

Yeah tell me about it, I used to work for them and got their stuff at a fraction of the retail price...paying full whack now is wounding to the wallet.

With regards to the paints, I'm sure some of the guys on here may be able to recomend some good alternatives (which could possibly be cheaper????) but I have only ever used Citadel Paints and so can't comment on the quality of others.

Practicallity can be a beautiful thing, don't knock it Very Happy

SIX DOLLARS!...to pay THAT MUCH for an 1/2 oz. bottle of adequate quality paint you'd have to be the ULTIMATE Fan Boy or a TOTAL Idiot...if there's any difference! And the lurker unburrows. Suspect
Vallejo is, from what I've heard, of superior quality, considerably less expensive, & with a triad system of colors. I use Americana, FolkArt, & Ceramcoat [available from Michaels]. I've found them to be decidedly better than GW's paint with a wider range of colors, a MUCH longer shelf life, AND, at around $1 for 2oz., MUCH LESS EXPENSE! And the lurker unburrows. 544694

Hey Toemass,

since you live in England, I can recommend two things ;
several English companies (see ebay e.g.) provide the Vallejo paints, and they are not bad at all.
Secondly, there's a french company who's selling out the Rackham stock ; among them their paint sets. They offer 41 paints for 39 euro's.
(http://www.ludikbazar.com/advanced_search_result.php?inc_subcat=1&search_in_description=1&keywords=paint&osc_sid=6b480d4f06dcd9542af92e9356ff0714&categories_id=0)
I don't know their paints though ...
I found out that their minimum shipping cost is 11 euro's, but I just kept on adding miniatures up to a total of 140 euros, and that was 15 euros shipping cost. So I think this is worth considering ...
(thanks for your reply to my post by the way)

Pascal, thanks for the tips but I'm afraid I don't live in england.
You'd find that I'm more Aussie than anythign else. I'm thinking when I get the oportunity I'm going to get Vallejo to ship me some paints anyway, they're bound to be cheaper and better than GW even with the P&H.

mmm, must have looked cross-eyed somewhere
sorry 'bout that
but surely there must be australian companies that sell quality paints for reasonable prices ?
did you try looking on ebay ?
