The release of the new empire archers has reduced the need to sculpt 20+ skirts to just a select few, so now dandy Marienburgers are cluttering up my desk faster than I can paint them!

But the least I can do is upload a few bluetack WIP shots to share my ideas.

(Captain moved)

Still missing the aforementioned combat skirt so fashionable in the proud merchant city, and no arm is final.

Long Rifle Marksman
Count's Marienburger & Undead modelling Longrifle
Since Asp reduced the price of the long rifle to more closely match its gameplay value, my warband can even afford to start with one.

Main colour will be a strong blue. I am still considering to just forget about the yellow. All fur will be from exotic animals. Welcome to Marienburg!

Cool stuff, looking forward to the project. And I love the little details on the marksman.

I love the wine and cheese on the rifleman's base. The first time he puts someone out, I bet they'll whine and call cheese. tongue

You can still add some yellow to ribbons and such to add a nice punch of contrast. A little yellow can really set off a nice rich blue.

Thanks, all!

Yeah, the cheese was almost as difficult to get right as the skirt. Wink
The hardest part about the marksman was to part with one of the precious bottles. *sigh*

Because I have little else to post right now, here's a WIP preview of my posh imperial vampire, the first incarnation of my wretched fighting claw abomination. Considering a prettier head, though. His coat needs smoothing, and any MH model needs more equipment.

COOL MINIS! Nice to see the Sharpshooter has provided himself a snack between targets...the DREAD snackshot skill Suspect . I REALLY like the feral look to the Vampire's face; it contrasts SO well with his finery. VERY NICE WIP pieces. thumbsup

Some cute conversions. The cheese, as everyone's noted already, is a great idea and very well executed. That's a bottle well spent, friend!

Again, thanks all!

I think the yellow ribbons and details are workable.

Asp linked me to music from Monkey Island, and while both the captain and the vampire now are very nearly done, they seem to have become a little more salty.

wow, these are all really great.

i'm curious about a few things though:

why does the vampire have handgun ammunition?

when you say that the main colour is going to be blue and you are going to skip the yellow, does that mean that they'll feature a blue/red scheme? - mine will be mainly yellow and red, with blue details here and there Smile

did you use a bigger base for the sharpshooter or is it just the angle?

what kind of cheese is he eating? Wink

oh yearh, and I managed to throw my one state troops bottle away Sad

Wow, those guys are fantastic. If it's not too much trouble, how did you go about fashioning the coat? I've never had the courage to try free hanging cloth before.

Thanks!

The coat was done in several steps to make the best use of green stuff's innate undo funtion. :)

The free parts I cheated my way around by several means. I crammed some aluminium foil between the model's legs to support my sculpting, then built a working layer of GS over that and finally smoothed over that with details, removed the foil and smoothed the inside.
For reasons of support, I did not sculpt all of the slit in his back, but cut it when most of the work was done.
The sides were a bit harder to get right. I smoothed some GS between two sheets of wax/baking paper, let it cure for 10-15 minutes, then cut it to the appropriate shape (or really just made sure the outside edge was a little straight) and applied it to the model, adjusting the shape a little.

Does this help just a little? I can try to make some more pictures when I cloak my wannabe-Tilean assassin. :)

> why does the vampire have handgun ammunition?

Because it will paint up well as blood vials ... ^_^

> when you say that the main colour is going to be blue and you are going to skip the yellow, does that mean that they'll feature a blue/red scheme? - mine will be mainly yellow and red, with blue details here and there :)

To me, three colours are already a bit messy. Mainly blue, yellow trim and ribbons. Will let my brush decide about the red.
Hmm, blue with yellow and red trims will make them look more like royal marines ...

> did you use a bigger base for the sharpshooter or is it just the angle?

Indeed. That long rifle is huuuge. That also created the need for a mini-diorama base

> what kind of cheese is he eating? ;)

Le Brie de Brionne, naturellement!

Backing paper! brilliant!

I should have thought of that BEFORE sculpting my cloaks... as I'm not content with them... hmmm maybe a small redo is in order...

Thanks for the tip! Smile

The Vampire is looking great as well, he certainly looks original, and I love the sculpting on the cloak!

Keep it up!

This gave me an ear-to-ear smile. You've obvioulsy spent a lot of time thinking about each and every detail on each of your models and it shows. I see a lot of well-done conversions/sculpts that look awesome but are far beyond my skills to try and do. You have a unique style that is very well done but also something the regular Joe (i.e. - me) could take away and try to emulate.

Wicked cool! Cool

Wow, that's some good ideas for techniques. having the foil armature to support your green stuff while you work is pretty slick. I'll have to give it a shot. lord knows with witch hunters there will be plenty of opportunities Very Happy

Thanks for the hints!

Warms my heart, honestly, but you give me too much credit. Too much of the time I allow bits on hand to make the model just by the way they match, not any master plan ...
But I do try to create a story with each model. I am happy to hear that it worked. :)

Btw, the vampire has a different head now. More pictures when I've done the hair.

More progress on the mounted necromancer. I still wonder if the scythe is a bit too much, but a mounted model needs a sort of spear, and if I paint it to look really shoddy I think it can work. :)

More Marienburgers:

Henchman with M79 blunderbuss (he also has an axe on his back - he really is Mr Subtle). He will be painted sooty and scorched.

Gold Wizard (warlock). Still needs a lot more bling!

haha the necromancer looks even better now that his gigantic scythe dwarfs the shoddy horse, giving the latter even more of a rocinante feel

Count's Marienburger & Undead modelling El_quijote_y_rocinante

as per the rules, he wants a type of club as well, yes, so that he can use a talisman see page 15.

is that a rabbit on the blunderbuseer?

the gold wizard is comming along nicely. what about giving him the fish I gave you?

VERY COOL STUFF! The scythe looks cool with the Necromancer...a bit of exaggeration works well with Fantasy minis in general & Mordheim thingys in particular; I've painted that sucker up a couple of time AND it turns out Ubercool. The mask on the Gold Wizard Guy looks GREAT &his rather corpulent physique is SO in character for a man of his occupation. The Blunderbus Guy with the BIG AXE is another in character piece. Keep up the SPLENDID WORK! thumbsup

Gold fish (no pun intended), good idea. ;)

The necromancer will have his club, I just need to figure how to arrange his backpack and reserve space for a grimoire and weird arcane equipment.

This guy eats danger, not rabbits. The particular handgunner model I used just carries a ridiculous amount of daggers. ;)
Maybe he'll need a bottle, though ... I know I would to fire that thing.

Thanks, but I am always worried things look a bit too heroic - after
all, Mordheim mercs are poor and desperate and should by no means have
access to good quality equipment. Once in a while I even suggest to Asp
to remove magic from Mordheim for that same reason. ;)
