Has anyone had any success making wagon wheels? I don't really want to be buying kits just for the wheels, too expensive! Would appreciate any advice on this.

I have not tried it yet but I have been thinking of making some that are the solid rounds with out spokes. They would look like round shields.

That seems the only viable option for DIY wheels; giant round shields made from strips of balsa, cut in a round shape. I wouldn't know how to make a realistic looking spoked wheel from scratch. I think your best chance is to go online and find sites where you can order them apiece.

Hello

You can use this thing for example :

http://www.thermomaster.rs/files/shop/products/1300553721D_H_h_hidmentes_tarcsas_d_bel_fem_beut_szeggel.jpg

This is PVC anchor for mineral wool (rockwool) ,just cut a head with that ornamental holes on it and
You can give some useful wheels for all kind of carts or wagons

I tried to do spoked wheels, but in the end gave up (my issue was getting the rim thin enough without the balsa breaking, perhaps if it was plasticard instead?).

I did solid wheels in my very quick fantasy carts tutorial on my site:

I made some solid ones as well, for a bunch of carts. thick sheets of balsa with a ring of plasticard around them as the Iron hoop, and also to protect the wheels from chipping win play.
