i've been playing with this idea for a little while, and while i'm not 100% perfected on it, the basic idea is still good.

(i know they arnt paitned to my usualy standards but i was in a rush to get them done for a game, and nobody seemed to be complaining. but with a little more time and fore thought in it they could look 100 times better.)

wyrdstones from quarts crystals!

when i was a little kid, i had a rock collection, and i have some quarts crystal points. so i got them down from the attic and decided they would make some pretty awesome wyrdstone deposits. so here's my step by step guide.

Step 1. (get some crystal points)

Step 2. (make a latex mold of them)

Step 3. (cast them out of resen or clear plastic, i would advice washing your hands or wearing gloves while handling fresh resin because everything sticks to it, like paint and dirt and fingerprints...very annoying (i need new resin))

step 4. (wash them in a very light coat of paint, or use ink (i wish i had green ink))

Step 5. (make your base out of green stuff or clay or scultpy what ever compound you like to work with, and stick the crystals in)

Step 6. (use those creative painting skills, base coats, washes and highlights! how ever you want to go about it)

its a fun little process and has lots of potential for other uses as well Very Happy

cool tutorial! Very Happy
But instead of going through the long process of making molds of crystals and such, you could just use sprue from your minis Wink

yes the necron sprues are excellent! (and the apocalypse templatesprues) green transparent, and working rather nicely as fiberoptics with LED's behind them... though I think actual crystals would work better in that respect.

yah my original idea was to put an LED in the base, but the ones i ordered (for another project) are almost as big as my thumb, so i have to get smaller ones and different batteries silent but i think i may use the large LEDs and incorporate a glowing wyrdstone deposit in a piece of terrain, it all just takes time and more planning.

Glowing wyrdstone would be awesome! How long do you think the batteries would last?

If you don't put a switch in and the LED is constantly on, I've clocked them at a week, then they die. But if you take the battery out or use a switch it'll last you a while

cardboard can be an easy switch, just stick it inbetween the battery and the contact and you're done... low budget, not spacious, easily applied switch.

of course, making a terrain piece is easier, and has plenty of room for a rack of batteries and switches if needed (I just unplug my batteries, though I'm not quite happy with the amount of light provided by the LED's I've installed in my table...
