Hello there!

As I've recently ranted about on my (largely 40k but recently Mordheim) Blog it seems to me that GW dont really make any Middenheimers anymore, except HQ units. Finding out that my beloved Hairy head sprue is no longer in the knight box was quite a blow I can tell you.

So I've resorted to kitbashing and GSing in an attempt to make empire soldiers fit the middeneheimer bill.

I've some bitz on order this is just form what I already had -

Middenheimers Midennhiemerchampion

Middenheimers Midennhiemercrossbow

I'd love to hear any thoughts from this community as to how these hold up as potential Middenheimer warband members.

Smile

You've done a great job of capturing the Middenheim look without going too Norse-y (if you know what I mean).

You might want to check out Wargames Factory's new ancient germans models. 30 heads (and other bits) for $20 (28mm model size). I'm thinking of ordering some myself.

Those are some decent heads, there's actually a few good companies out there now that i'm looking Smile

My purpose in posting is to share with you all the painting in progress of the champion.

first a bit of background - I've spent the sixish months since i got back inot gaming playing 40k, i've painted 3 armies in that time, including about 1000 pts of orks in four days.

these guys are an exercise for me in slowing down and trying to improve my painitng.

this fellow has some stuff on him i'm not confident with - technique wise, and i've deliberately steered clear of things i am comfortable with. hes "in progress" because his leather and base arent done at all, and some of the other areas need finishing/refining.

here he is

Middenheimers Midchamppip

the face has photographed a bit colder than it is, not sure why, and parts of him are shiny due to use of klear, that will go when finished.

i guess what i'm asking is, what would you all do to "finish" this figure now?

LOOKIN' GOOD! I like your choice of colors especially the red hair. The light skin coloration looks fine, matches well with the hair. AND the Wolf cloak turned out GREAT! WELL DONE! thumbsup

Thanks Deafnala Smile

I've put him to one side as "finished" now, I can always see more I want to do to my models, I just have to tell myself to stop.

I took these pics outside today as i'm still having issues with getting decent lighting indoors, he's dullcoated now so there should be a lot less "shiny" to him.

He was an exercise for me in taking my time a bit more over paitning a model, and I'm not sure the end result was worth that time Smile BUT the experience certainly was, I learned a lot, specifically I've learned what I want to learn Smile

anyway here he is,

Middenheimers DSC_4822Middenheimers DSC_4823Middenheimers DSC_4824

The key point for me with this fellow is improving, so if anyone has any comments i'd love to hear them Smile
