| Now that we've got the flagstone ready to go... we need a way to seal it. With it being the table base it's going to get a lot of foot traffic on it from the models. I don't want to use any of the spray stuff because it's foam. Any suggestions on sealing it so it doesn't get damaged from all the use? | |

| PVA glue, watered down a little and spread liberally over every exposed bit of foam. Works a treat. Edit: *reads other people's comments below* Ack! I think I got the wrong end of the stick...

| Do I hear you correctly good Svenn, that you have painted the foam already and are now sealing the result?
I generally seal the foam first as suggested above so that I can prime it with aerosols and seal it with aerosols.
If the watered glue will dry clear and not mess with the paint then you may be able to use it as a final coat. Test it on one of your many samples. Otherwise I'd go to Lowes and by some water based Min-Wax or Valspar product and seal it with that. You can buy it in quarts, brush it on and it will cover quite a bit of wargame scenery.

| If the foam is cover with paint, a spray finish shouldn't have any negative effect. It's only bare foam that is eroded by the spray's propellent. | |

| Hmm, I'll test out the spray stuff. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll try what Von Kurst suggested.
The issue with sealing it first is that we're using a cobblestone stamp, and it doesn't make an incredibly deep impression so an extra layer of something on top might just make it even less noticeable. I suppose I could try doing something to seal it first though. Watered down PVA glue you say?

| We seal with PVA after we have done the sculpting/modelling but before we paint (and especially before we use spray undercoat). | |

How watered down? How do you know if it's sealed well enough?

If I remember to test, I do one every project since manufacturers are always changing formulas on us and none of them are thinking of alternative uses for their products.

| I only found this wicked forum today. but I had to register to offer some advice, so this is my first post Anyway, If you haven't already done this, instead of brushing on the PVA/water mix, I use a garden sprayer, it lets you get coverage without excess fluid lying on the surface obscuring detail. | |
