PostSubject: The Chair's Log   Sun 5 Jul 2009 - 11:34

Hey everyone. I'm somewhat new to the forums, so I decided to post up a bit of my previous work and in so doing create a space for future projects as well. My first warband was beastmen. They're still not entirely finished, but the heroes are all done. Currently the beastmen are on the back burner and I'm working on a empire outrider warband modeled to look like mounted witchhunters. Pics of that to come soon. For now, some picture of the beastmen. Oh, and a little disclaimer; they look a bit better in person. My photography skills are terrible.

My favorite Gor:

The Shaman when he was WIP:

The leader (he's since been rebased to match the others:

and last, an emissary of chaos WIP:

Very nice! I like your conversions a lot. And the emissary is great, I hope you'll paint him soon Smile

The big moo looks great so far. Excellent use of the placcy rat ogre. Should be suitably badass when finished (and painted Wink ).

Beautiful Work! I look forward to watching your progress.

VERY COOL BEASTIES! Tom is going to LOVE these Guys. VERY NICELY painted &based. The conversion work on the Bully Boy is GREAT; I HATED GW's version with feet...hooves ARE MUCH more appropriate. Keep up the EXCELLENT WORK! thumbsup

Thanks guys Smile The minotaur and the emissary are actually both partially painted, but I got a bit distracted with the "witchhunter" warband I'm working on so they're sitting on my painting table gathering dust Razz

oh, and the legs are indeed from the vampire with the one wing. They looked pretty chaosy so I got out the ol' hack saw and went to work.

Thanks, Tewfik, I put quite a lot of thought in to them. I even did all the bases together before I had started on some of the miniatures! In fact, I took a rather crumby picture that has most of them in it.

Next up, a couple of hastily assembled wyrdstone counters and a counter for the hidden treasure scenario. Sorry about the bad pictures. That silver blur in the center is actually a sac of treasure Shocked

Last but not least is the first member of my new (second) warband. I decided I wanted to do witchhunters towards the end of the mordheim campaign I participated in last Summer. The idea has been slowly stewing in my head over the cooler seasons and now that it's time for mordheim at my store again I've started work. Much as I like the regular witchhunters, I decided to do something a bit different. That said, I'm modeling a mounted witchhunter warband using the outrider rules. While I've actually made quite a lot of progress, this henchmen is the only guy I've managed to get completely finished, so he'll be the only one featured for now. In fluff terms he'll act as one of the mercenary warriors fighting alongside the witchunters for glory and loot and use the rules of a Hussar. I apologize for the lousy photgraphy, it's a real stumbling block for me.

COOL STUFF! I also make my bases first; re, basing is probably the messiest portion of the process & I'd rather do a touch up on the base than the mini.
An all cavalry War Band is a VERY cool & different idea. AND an EXCELLENT excuse for doing up EVEN more minis to represent the Lads when dismount. Keep'em coming! thumbsup

Yup, a friend of mine decided to do the outriders and his work inspired my own foray in to the mounted world. He cleverly bought two outrider boxes so he could have two of each head; one for the mounted version, and one for the dismounted. If you guys would like to see some pictures he posted on our local forums here's a link:

Please steal away, but be for-warned that the avatarsofwar website is coming out with a minotaur sculpt soon, and I'm sure it will be fantastic Very Happy

Drugart: Beastmen are great. Cool models and tough as nails to boot. Having all your important stuff start at toughness 4 is pretty awesome!

@ Mr.chair, i've ordered the avatar beastman, should have it this week if it was in stock but i didn't know that they were doing a minotaur too. Check out Reaper as they have a couple of cool beastmen minis too.
and i still think your leader is one of the best painted beastmen i've seen in a long time

Mr.chair, just thought i'd let you know i've received the beastman from avatars, not a bad figure very good detailing but he's slightly 2 dimensional, for casting reasons i suppose, if i ever work out how to take a decent picture and post it i'll put one up. Keep up the truly great work

that's the boy, he looks really cool as a green and i'm hoping to get more depth when painting him, but the right arm with the axe is part of the main cast so he looses a bit of 3d depth, but i will say again the level of detail is very good, I had the same problem with their barbarian hero but when painted he turned out quite good

You'll have to post some pictures once you get him painted, I'd like to see how he turns out.

Another minor update. This one is only ever so slightly less boring than the last, as it at least features some greenstuff, though very little. At least we're in the right place for boring, right? This is the second of my mercenary warrior henchmen. The first picture I kept his shield off so you could see his sculpted mantel/hood. The other pictures are just some shots of both these models together.

Don't be discouraged, these guys are done because they are boring. The more interesting stuff is taking longer, but it will get there eventually. I'm too lazy to make a putty oven so I work on all my miniatures at once and only do a tiny bit on each guy during each session so I don't mash anything with a clumsy finger later.

mrtn: Thank you, I really put some time in to him. The GW minotaurs are so universally atrocious, but the art for them is always so cool.

DeafNala: I'll probably stick to the really muted colors for the most part. Dark grays, black, browns and red/browns. My plan is for the horses to act as the accent colors since you can do white blazes, stockings and other markings on them to catch the eye.

The extra equipment seemed like a must have. Why bring a horse to Mordheim if you're not at least going to use him to haul around your junk?

Fungomungus: I use Aves Epoxy Sculpt. It's another two part putty, like green or brown stuff, however it's cheaper, and much much softer. It's more like working with playdough. there's not much stick to it. It lends itself well to stuff like basing and it's economical!
