we got rats!

Well my skaven night runner box just arrived in the mail and i've whacked together my first 3 verminkin. I figure i'll post a sort of blog of my work on these guys here to hopefully encourage me to spend more time on these guys then i did on my first army of tomb kings (pics of these are in fantasy general) i just finished. Below are my first 3, as slings and free daggers don't need representing on my models i've decided to try and add some variety into my verminkin who will probably stick in groups of 3 in game.



Bases still need cleaning/filing and i got to many finger prints on them but for a first try at stone i think their ok, the one on the right i plan on running some bright green/pva down the middle to make it look like his crossing a sewer of gunk. I also tryed cutting up weapons for the first time (shortened a sword into a knife and removed a weapon from a hand) and it was much easier to shape then i expected! more pics to come as i attempt to paint my first skaven and make up some more.

NICE START! Posting your WIP as a blog thingy is a FINE idea. You WILL get lots of encouragement to help keep up your enthusiasm. The bases look GOOD & will add quite a bit to the overall effect. Keep up the GOOD WORK! ...or ELSE. [negative reinforcement works too.]

Love the work on the bases. I've been wanting to do something like that, but I'm waiting for mt Green Stuff to arrive.

Afew more pics, i didn't get a chance to spray my skaven until tonight so while they dry i've made up afew quick conversions





There's one of my night runners with club+sling, assassin with weeping blades and black skaven with claws. Just did a quick weapon swap with some offhand dagger blades sliced off and replaced with an offcut bit of sprue carved up to look like a club and the blade of another wavy sword for my assassin. The club looks ok to me but i may need to put a very very small bit of greenstuff on the join for my assasins sword. What do you guys think?

Rather than GSing the off hand weapon, it MIGHT be better to trim off the bit sticking up from the hand, & mount the blade closer to the hand...just a thought. The minis AND thebases ARE looking GOOD!

Well i just finshed my first ever skaven and i think he'll be passable (he is only a verminkin!) i'm still waiting for my new paints to arrive (containing my stone grey) so the base is still unpainted. Any feedback on ways to improve painting would be great as i've only really painted bones before (tomb kings) and never fur.

Fur is pretty easy to make look good. First, wash the basecolour with something to shade the recesses (very watered down black would do, although I'd recommend using a dark brown). Once the wash has completely dried, drybrush a slightly lighter version of the base colour over the top of the fur. It will catch the texture only and give the fur some more definition.

PRETTY COOL LOOKING! A dot of yellow in the center of their beady red eyes would give them a glowing effect. While a bit of shading & highlighting would enhance their overall appearance, they look FINE as is. WELL DONE!

Yeah bases will be done i'm just waiting on some more paints to arrive, did some more last night only have my sorceror to go then ill try and get some pics of the whole band

COOL RATS! The Rat Lads REALLY look good enmasse. The skulls turned out GREAT. The one with the table leg club is my personal favorite. WELL DONE!

nice! now where have i seen that technique for painting weeping blades before?

*Sigh* rats with ogre fists!, but then they are ratmen so maybe the ogre fists are the man part????
