First Work with Washes Empty
PostSubject: First Work with Washes   First Work with Washes Icon_minitimeWed 13 May 2009 - 7:14

So on the advice of some of the forum goers I bought some Devlan Mud and Badab Black Citadel Washes. This stuff is pretty awesome, and will probably increase the rate at which I paint as well as make me ten times as lazy. Yay! Anyway it's really helping get a nice, simple variety of brown colors because I can just wash any one of them and bam, there's another shade of brown and I don't even have to mix paint.

And metals, hoohoo! I hadn't actually tried painting much metallic stuff before this but seeing as I only have mithril silver and shining gold (I'm cheap and tried to just add black to get boltgun and such) I'm not sure I mind missing out on the "experience."

Anyway this is the guy I did my first wash trials on. Started with the head and moved slowly downward. The reds weren't washed, except some directly application to the back folds. All the white/bone areas were washed once or twice or more (in the case of the piece on the back). Still practicing painting tiny writing for holy words like the GWS showcase model so far no good so I will practice more!!

Anyway, pics! (I gotta start taking pictures a little further away, yeesh look at all the places I need to touch up, sigh...)

VERY NICE! The washes add a nice depth of color to the mini. On the flesh I think you'd get a better result using a reddish brown wash. Otherwise LOOKIN' GOOD! thumbsup

Is it really much better for flesh than devlan mud? Maybe I'll pick some up over the weekend.

oh, shiny! That is one of my all time favorite GW models and you did it justice with a crisp paint job. I should try out the washes too.

LOOKIN' GOOD! The washes ARE having a very nice impact on your technique. Being blown up, the photo that is, to that size & still looking good speaks well for the effect you achieved. I suggest toning down the black areas on the face, but, other than that, VERY WELL DONE! thumbsup
