A Witch Hunters warband is leading our campaign. I think it will win if we don't do something now as everyone is finding it impossible to beat in two player battles.

Some of the players think the warband is overpowered. Should it be banned?

Should we ask the Witch Hunters captain to leave our campaign to restore balance?

Do you have any special rules? Maybe max-size 15 models or something? Dogs are good in the beginning, Flagellants can become good and so do the heros with crossbows and access to academic skills for all. But I never considered WH to be too good and I never heard anyone here claim that. Possibly the player is just very good? Or he was very lucky in the beginning and is now "too big to fail"? Maybe have a couple of 2 vs. 1 games, or pick certain scenarios or think up underdog bonuses. But banning the warband or even the PLAYER?!? Shocked

I think he is just being snide based on some of the other threads out there complaining that "This warband kicked my but so they are over powered"

If serious... then I suspect that MIM with ether some of the rules there or even the campaign objectivs that your witch hunters are using is more apt to be the problem and not the warband... or the guy using them is just so awesome and the rest of you guys suck (or poor/good luck)

I had the same problem. We have discussed to houserule that witchhunter may only have up to 2 crossbows in the warband. They were way to strong!

Another idea was, that they may only have one flaggelant or warhound for every zealot in their host.

Werekin,

You should be more specific...What makes them Overpowered...

Flagellants ? Yes, they are good... but not better than possessed or mutants.
Dogs ? Yes, they are good... but as the campaign advance they are not so good.
Equipment ? Well... I see nothing there.
Spellcaster ? Surely not.

With their warband cap at 12 they got a long term disadvantage.

Of course, if the player always send all his wardogs to the front then retire... it can become a problem... but if its the trouble... then the PLAYER is the problem, not the warband.

You should check what he got as advance rolls ? Maybe he was lucky ? Cheating ? There are a lot of possible explaination but witch hunter being overpowered ? No. Indeed, its an under-average warband (not hopeless but not from the best for sure).

Indeed.

The bretonnians is one of the worst warband (if not THE worst)...

I do play them and we had to gave them a few edges like Free ride skills, acces to Strenght skills for knights and add them a Custom hired sword (spellcaster Damsel of the lake). Their flaws are simple : Overpriced knight heroes, no spellcaster, limited skill access, Maxed at 12 warriors, bad special skills and abilities. Also, if you lose a knight, you have to kick out a squire and if its the questing knight, you cannot replace it. I see a single problem that they share with the WHunters... 12 warriors... but the WHunters henchmen are so much better... so...

Please, let Werekin iluminate us about true meaning of his post. Is he making a jest, drawing us into pointless discussion or has he really got a problem with witch hunters warband that, by overpowered rules, makes a mockery of every player's effort to defeat them?

I don't think the campaign objectives are at fault here. The motives of Witch Hunters is pretty straight forward;

Capture and torture suspected heretics before burning them alive, drowning all witches, incinerating all mutants & warlocks, banishing all daemons, smiting all undead then torching their bones.

One of the Chaos warband leaders played straight into the Witch Hunters hands. He managed to escape with his guts intact but not before spilling the beans... There had also been some collusion with another player. They called this an alliance?

The other new Chaos themed warband in Marienburg was described by the player using Ogres as 'broken'. That warband was dark worshippers led an assault against the Witch Hunters and were driven off in no more than 2 turns.

These heavily armoured Templars have not even been granted a license to make arrests in Marienburg and yet they are putting local law enforcers to shame!

All this evidence must be compelling enough to tell the Sigmarites to leave...

True.

However, depending on your campaign and the opponents you're facing, some warband can get overpowered (for that particular campaign).

What the WH do use as equipment?
What is their roster?
What spell(s) got the priest?

Battlefields are dense/light with many/few elevation?

What kind of tactic uses this player ? Cheesy and conservative?

The two warbands you told that were wiped are close-combat focused ( Marauders/Possessed). If your fellows rushed out in the open without hiding its sure they faced a lot of crossbow shots ... and crossbows are... painful.

Maybe a union of some sorts would be of use?

Actually there haven't been any vampiric fatalities. The Strigoi vampire had a run in with some over-sized amphibians down in the Marienburg Grand Sewer Network.

I'm not particularly familiar with witch hunting armaments. I would need to ask Commander Jarzembowski from the Order of the Holy Flame to scan a copy of his roster sheet.

Brothers and Sisters: It bugs me that the Mordheim Rulebooks gives no information about Templars of Sigmar receiving the blessings of Sigmar. Witch Hunters do receive Sigmar's blessings in the stories. As such I have included something covering this in the urban objectives for our campaign plot to this effect so that Sisters of Sigmar don't exclusively have holy preference over their godly 'brothers'.

The battlefields we use are densely populated with terrain features. You may have seen the fortifications on my dockside battlefield which appear on Liber Malefic. These are viewable on the gallery by clicking the logo link below. We also game using Joao's townscape which is a densely populated settlement.

The player uses a mix of martial manoeuvres honed from years of tabletop battles combined with story driven actions which he feels befit the nature of the campaign setting and help the Witch Hunters in their pursuit of fiery justice. Prompts are not needed with this player as he has a sound knowledge of the rules plus he has understood the objectives from the plot-line he is following.

If a 'Templars Tactics 101' is something folks are interested in then I will have to invite the player to work on a write-up.
