Ooops, sorry
This week we decided to play “Monster Hunt” from the Best of Town Crier as a 3 way battle on 4x6 table</A>. We randomly determined that it would be in the Cathy borderlands and also decided to have 2 caves and that each player would roll on the perilous phenomenon table</A> each turn</A> until each player got a result. The monsters</A> in the caves were randomly selected from a BTB list and we got a wyvern and a griffon. The caves were placed at opposite ends of the table</A> and we placed terrain as normal (2 hills, areas of forest and decaying forest a small marsh and 3 woodsmans huts. Then we determined who went first ect.
So, the Norse (me) got a short table edge near the wyvern cage on my right were the Maneaters (Martin) and on my left were the Kislevites (Chris)(near to the griffon cave). The Norse went first I rolled on the PP chart and got heavy rain (ok for me) then I stupidly and greedily split my force, the 5 wolves, wulfen a berserker and a bondsman (all 3 heroes have sprint) went up the table to take on the griffon and kislevites and the Jarl (Eric the Short) a berserker a bondsman and 5 mauraders got to within a few inchs of the wyvern cave. The Kislevites made straight for the griffon cave and the maneaters started towards the wyvern cave whilst a harpoon totting ugly brute of their band struggled up a hill anticipating a few pot shots on the kislevites and norse wolfs.
Turn 2 and the wolf group of norse ran from amongst the decaying forest which had provided a little cover and headed towards the kislevites. The other group of norse tried to enter the woods surrounding the wyvern cave but 3 of the marauders bottled it as did the berserker but Eric the Short bravely forged on with a bodsman and 2 marauders. The kislevites turned and fired upon the closing wolves and managed to OOA one. The maneaters didn’t want to take on the norse in the woods where their greater charge distance was negated so moved slowly closer however the cross bow totting brute cracked a shot off at the kislevites but missed. The wyvern charged a norse marauder and OOA him
Turn 3 and the norse wolves and heroes got into combat with the kislevites which resulted in the kislev leader and youth going OOA (route test)and 3 wolves being stunned the other norse group charged the wyvern and OOA’d it whilst the 2 marauders and berserker shame facedly entered the woods. The kislevites consentrated on taking the norse wolves and heroes out the norse berserker and 4 wolves went OOA which meant the norse would be taking a route test in their next turn but the kislevites lost a warrior to the norse. The maneaters split their forces and 2 of the 8 ran towards the griffon cave, five went around the back and over the wyvern cave and the brute with the crossbow let rip another shot but missed again.
Turn 4 and the norse passed the route test but the wulfen, bondsman and remaining wolf started to head back to the jarls group. Eric the short stood in the woods bellowing taunts at the ogres.
The kislevites passed a route test, rolled Ooops on the PP table and got a bunch of healing herbs which one of their heroes who had taken a wound from the norse berserker used immediately.
The maneaters fired off another shot and missed again and the splinter group of 2 that included the captain moved up to the griffon cave.
Turn 4 the norse group with Eric the short sat in the cave and waited for the wulfen and berserker to reinforce them before taking on the ogres who were surrounding them. The kislevites failed a route test and were off.The maneaters rolled 2 terracota soldiers on the PP table who came on where the norse had entered, the captain and henchman moved to the griffon cave and the ballista totting brute took out the last wolf, the rest just sat and waited for the inevitable norse charge from the woods.
The griffon attacked the 2 ogres but was smashed to a pulp by the captain.
Turn 5
The norse jarl waited for his warband to regroup.
The ogres sat and waited.
A deal was struck between the norse and ogres that the ogres would get all the money and jewels but the norse would get the ogres roll on the lesser artifacts table (we substituted it for the magic items table) and so game over………….. No, the terracotta soldiers (who had not moved yet and were being controlled by Chris) charged the wulfen and berserker and the combat was unresolved.
Turn 6 the terracotta soldiers would not let it go and the only way out of the fight was for the norse to route which meant the maneaters would win both treasures. Of course the norse would not volountarily route but they failed their most crucial route test and the maneaters won.
After the game the norse lost 3 wolves and 1 marauder permanently .
The kislev youth misses the next game.
The ogres got loadsa money.
After buying new war band members and stuff these are the current ratings
War band WBR CP No. in warband
Norse 236 12 16
Maneaters 212 16 9
Kislev 167 14 10
The wolves are not as effective as they were in the earlier games and i am wondering wether to just keep 2 and get another band of marauders.
The Kisl;ev leader got Chest wounds and stupid early on in the campaign and this makes him less than effective.
