Flames of War

Hey guys,

When I was searching on the web, I found a game called Flames of War. It's based on World War II, which I'm very intrested in. Are there any players here who can tell me a bit about it? Here is the main site by the way: www.flamesofwar.com

Hey Tag, I know a bit about the game...a handful of guys down at one of the local gaming stores are fairly avid players. I don't know a whole lot about the gameplay, but as far as the community aspect goes I'd visit the forums on the homepage, they're pretty active from what I remember.

And they do make starter kits for various armies of various sizes. What you'll buy depends on what type of army you start up though. You can run infantry, mechanized infantry, or an armored company...so obviously buying a company of infantry wouldn't do you any good if you were going to play with an armored company. You can also choose to base your army around the start, middle, or end of the war; as the tactics and available units changed drastically throughout the war. Go browse the products at the homepage of Flames of War, they'll give you an idea of the boxed sets that are available. Some armies have "army boxes" that you can buy, others you'll have to piece together with separate battalions and companies.

They have a thread in the FoW forums specifically for the airborne units and the tactics concerning how to use them. There is also the German airborne, the Fallschirmjager, who're hard as nails. If you're running a US airborne company then you'll be playing late war, which is what people tend to play anyways.

When I was considering starting up an army I had a few lists for the Fallschirmjager built...kind of tempts me to go back down to the game store and finish learning how to play.

Too bad GW is busy punching me in the stomach and taking my lunch money.

A bit off subject, but than that seems to be in character for moi. Thanks for the post, Axel; I have an Empire Hero on a Pegasus who I refer to as a fallschirmjager. What do you know....I have these models too. I have a nice size German Army. I can take photos of my models and post up. It is a very good game as well. Let me know if you need any help. I havent played in over a year due to kids and WHFB, but I still remember a few things.

Take some photos Ajax, I need inspiration to paint my Germans now that they don't get to kill anything any more.
