Marauders (BTB) Balance?

Hi again all,

Im starting up a mordheim campaign with some mates and have been looking at which warband to take. My current thoughts are a duellist themed reiklander warband (see warband lists thread) but I have a fledgling Warriors of Chaos army on the go and my minds abuzz with conversions using the marauder box and old multi-part chaos warrior bits (plus possibly some of the current ghoul heads/ arms for flavour!)

So, my question is, how well does the Marauder warband from Bordertown burning balance with the "official" bands (probably primarily the 15 or so listed on Mordheimer as "official")? I love the feel of the BTB Marauders and from what I can see they're not really any better or easier to use than most of the main warbands, in fact their extreme lack of shooting probably puts them a bit behind the 8 ball compared to the more powerful warband types...

What are peoples thoughts (and especially experiences) with this? I need to sell it to my mates yet but I want to make sure Im not inadvertantly setting myself up for an OTT band...

I've played with two marauder warbands on separate occasions and they never felt over or under powered to me. A few of the mutations the marauders can get from the expanded corrupted list are a bit dubious but shouldn't be game breaking.

They are really good if you are winning. I lost and had a bad roll and lost my leader to the gods being mad at him.... I got a chaos spawn.


They are on par with the starting warbands, although if you pick one that cannot use bows they can have real issues against Reiklanders or any shooty warband just like anyone else with little or no ranged attacks.

I got lucky with my marauders warband.

It really rocks, but the lackof shooting is a real issue.

I partially solved it by hiring a dark elf assassin.

I like to play them sometime, but not every time because without nearly any shooting Mordheim is less exciting.

Note that you can choose the Kurgan tribe if you want access to bows.
