I want to do some modeling this weekend, but don't want to wait half a day for the GS to cure, so I thought I'd just set up a tin can oven. However, I was wondering if such a thing could melt or warp the GW plastic.

Does anyone know if it's save, or will I have to take extreme care?

I would think any extreme heat would warp the plastic. We use the same type of method in my smithing guild for portable forges. If you heat the blade to much, the metal will start burning away. No matter what I would keep a close eye on it, but also know there will always be trial and error in this process.

I used to bake supersculpty on 100 decrees in the oven, and on this temprature plastic warps a bit and metal is oke! So if i was you I would be careful and dont forget that your base is also plastic Very Happy (lots of people tend to forget the base when they remove paint from there metal models with nailpolish remover!)

Plastic starts to soften at about 100 degrees C/ 212F. Anything higher can have a profound effect on the sculpt. BTW a quick dip into some almost boiling water will soften plastic enough to do some repositioning work.

You've worked with Green Stuff a lot more than me, but from my brief experience to it, I just put it directly under a reading lamp. Bend the head of the lamp till it's about 12-18" inches away from the figures, and it SEEMS to harden a bit faster.

Why not use the easiest and most obvious way?

Blue is the hardener. Just shift the yellow/blue ratio towards blue to reduce curing time Smile

Of course you then also need to work a little faster.

Because it would be to easy Razz Did not think of that, might give it a try. Will it also be harder (as in not so soft) to work with? It's pretty old GS and annoying me already with it's consistency...

The blue compound is less soft than the yellow. So yes, if you increase the blue, the putty will get slightly harder to knead. But nothing you can't handle.

A hand held hair dryer also works pretty well decreasing the drying time.
CAVEAT: If you borrow your Mom's, treat it [the hair dryer] TENDERLY. Women CAN turn rather NASTY if their personal appearance is endangered. Deaf Nala Smiley
