| Maybe it's just a European specialty, but I've been to every craft and handyman store in my town (all 3 of them) and no one has any idea what PVA is.
Can someone post a pic of what it looks like? or explain the difference between it and Normal white all-purpose glue? or both?
thanks, | |

| There is a difference? I thought PVA was simply white wood glue. | |

| Matt and Erk, you are 100% right! PVA stands for " Poly- Vinyl- Acetate". It was discovered in the early 1900s by a german chemist, who realised that "Vinyl" groups can polymerise (that means, bind to each other to form "chains") and go from liquid to solid in sunlight. Let's break down PVA into it's single components. 1) Acetate ( red) is the "anionic" (or "charged" form of acetic acid). In other words, the "ion" that is dervied from the acid that makes vinegar "acid" (the one you put on your salad!). 2) "Vinyl" ( green) is a name chemists gave a certain chemical structure (an ethen group) because they thought it was so remakable it should get it's own "trivial" name. 3) Poly means "many" in latin. That simply means that PVA is composed of many of these VA (Vinyl-Acetate) groups. I made a little drawing to make this more clear: What's so special about PVA in glue then? PVA serves as a bonding agent in glues (GER: Bindemittel, FR: liant). The fact that it is a "polymer" ( POLY-Vinyl-Actetat instead of just Vinyl-Acetat) makes the glues "thick" and "creamy". So "white wood glue" and "PVA Glue" are the same thing. Only that some companies like to designate their product by the main chemical ingredient (PVA) and others prefer to call the stuff by it's mode of use (White Wood Glue, GER: Weisser Holzleim). I bet you that all the "white" glues you guys use for Mordheim, are in fact PVA glues

| Thank you all for your answers.
I'm glad I have finally cleared that up. =)
Sounds like a deal. I think I'm going to start calling it "PVA glue" cause it sounds more sophisticated than "Elmer's Glue" lol
Thanks again guys, | |

| Great explanation Tom! It's very understandable.
And Tagnator: Don't buy GW's wood glue! It cost's about the half if you go to a craftstore and buy it there. Plus, the GW glue is less thick than usual glue, because it was made to put static grass and sand on bases. | |
