I'm thinking about buying this old box off ebay or some other auction - one of my friends want to start playing 40K and would like to play Tyranids.

Does any of you know what this box included? It's nearly impossible to find online and GW removed it from their site once Assault on Black Reach got out Sad

Thanks a lot!

such a cheap cop-out in my view for a starter set, especially since there's only 10 marines, I suppose if you really wanted you could get it and AOBR and theres a decent sized marine army.

What were the other box sets also offtopic?

I remember one was 20 marines vs 20 orks and 40 gretchin with card buildings, one had dark eldar vs 10 marines and land speeder, as in what were their names and models?

2nd Edition and 3rd Edition. Wink

They didn't have special names, they were just the boxed game. It wasn't until Battle for McCragge (2004) that GW started releasing specially named starter sets with the mini rulebooks. Before that, the game boxes contained full size rulebooks and Rogue Trader (1st Edition) didn't even have a boxed version of the game. It was a collection of books (Rogue Trader, Vehicle Manual and Battle Manual) for the core rules, plus a myriad of other books and White Dwarf articles for army lists.

Oh ok thanks a lot guys! That's not even closely enough to buy the box Razz for that money you can easily buy the tyranids alone and an outdated rulebook Razz

option is to buy the aobr box, use the marines, and sell/trade the orks for nids, it ends up a better deal and hopefully you can get a nice trade for your friend to start his niddies with along with a battleforce for both of you making decent sized armies.

Btw, just e-bayed for the 2nd edition box (could use the gretchins - they're damn expensive cuz you need soooo many of em) and look what i found!

http://cgi.ebay.com/GW-WARHAMMER-40K-2nd-Edition-SET-Unplayed-CITADEL_W0QQitemZ350152665981QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item350152665981&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A570|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

229 dollars!?!? and they've even opened the box and painted a few of the models and there's an ork arm missing! Razz that's insane!!

ended figuring out i don't want the box anyways - all the models are alike AND ugly! haha

Shocked I wish I still had my copy of it now!!! (Though it was in a bit of a state of disrepair compared to that one!)
Oh and yeah the models in that box were really awful, so static!
