| Perhaps this belongs in general shouting, but here goes... This is a pic of my latest acquisition for terrain for Mordheim (the miniatures were thrown in just to give you folks a size comparrison): So, those are them. Playmobile, for anyone who isn't familiar with these toys. Given to me by my son. He loves the playsets, though he only uses the knights, vehicles, dinosaurs, whatnot that come with them. let's his father tahe the bits and pieces leftover. Acceptable? They are a little on the colourful side, yes, but I could always repaint them at a later time. Of course, this begs the question: is it a luck score (free terrain pieces), or just a sad sad day in hobbyland when a man's terrain pieces come from a three year old who has grown bored of them? Either way, my collection just got a little bigger! Later | |

| VERY NICE STUFF , lots of possibilities here! There a lot of very useful thingys floating around under the toy category stigma. I got a PlayMobile-Wannabe Mummy terrain set that will be adapted for a friend's Tomb King's Army/Khemri setting. Keeping an eye open to ALL possibly useful stuff CAN lead to some VERY interesting modeling projects. Congratulations on the new toys & thanks for posting them. | |

| Considering quite a few hobbyists pick stuff out of a bin, or steal packaging at christmas time... i'd say being given some by a child is not that bad.
You could use them with some home made bits to add appeal. like putting the weird tree which is off the ground over some ruins, and the small water thing in the middle of a ruined building to make it looks liek it flooded partily. _________________

| I think especially the trees are very useful, and I don't think they look any different to GWs jungle terrain before being painted. | |

| Imho those does not belong in a mordheim or any other miniature game (except perhaps one involving Legos or Playmobile ) There are lots of useful guides ono how to make trees and other natural formations - its not that hard and doesn't costs a lot of money - but it looks a hell of a lot better - Try some of them instead. The next part migh be a little of topic here... But in general imo the ppl who frequent this forum are a bit to nice when they comment other ppls work (even when things in reality doesn't look that good). I would instead give ppl some more honest criticism and advice on how to improve their skills. Don't get me wrong - there are PLENTY of REALLT nice looking things on the forum, and lots of inspiration (and I visit pretty much everyday). From now on - I myself will try to give some more honest criticism and advice, which I think could help - Oh yeah, I will also try and comment more (which I really haven't done - except on my own posts) I will however also comment on work I think is excellent (which as I said before - alot of stuff on the forum is). My criticism will not be not meant to hang out ppl whose things do not look as good as GWs (or any other masterpainter), but to help them improve their skills - and I hope that other ppl will be brutally honest with my things as well and give me advice on how to improve my skills (especially in the near future, where I will be experimenting with blending - instead of my usual quickpainting and dipping). Just my thoughts of the day /AlexBware | |

| It's not really about what they ARE. It's more a matter of what they can BECOME. With a bit of imagination & a little work, these thingys CAN be transformed into some VERY NICE pieces. | |

| Well, as I said, it may take awhile, but I will try and eventually paint them. The thing for me is I'm more a gamer then a hobbyist. For me, playing the games come before the hobby. I don't paint as much as I should, and I don't even try and build terrain. I enjoy painting, don't get me wrong, but gaming comes first for me. I just enjoy having the pieces to add to the games I play is all. As far as people's comments - I love it! I've never been on a forum where everyone was so quick to be kind and give praise to your work. Sure, I know the majority of the people on this site are much better painters then me, but anytime I toss up a mini I get nice comments that I appreciatce greatly. No, I don't want anyone to lie to me, and constructive criticism is good - but above all I appreciate everyone's kindness here. It's always nice when you put up a mini you weren't sure about, but get nice comments on anyways. Besides, as I said, I'm more in it for the game. While I enjoy painting, I know I could do better and I know the corners I cut to get the mini done at times. Sometimes I paint just so I can have it ready to play too. But that may just be me. | |

| I'm the same, i do a basic paint job on my minis and terrain, and a decent level of constructing them (better than my painting) to make sure if i ever get the chance for a game or two i'm ready. once i've got my Reiklander warband up to 30 men (all possible combos) i'll do some to a higher standard.
If you don't like making terrain i'm happy to build you some, i prefer the terrain building to painting, so i can construct it and let you paint it. sound fun? _________________

| I agree with AlexBware about this scenery can feel out of place in Mordheim, but the two grey "rock" pieces certainly have a lot of potential with just a little effort.
Now it's true sometimes a few WIPs get more kind reviews then they may deserve, but most of the works I have seen in this forum are just great.
And there are people with buckets of time, motivation and talent, and are willing to make a tremendous effort to play with expert painted models and award-winning scenery, but others are happy with a more modest achievement.
IMHO there is a place for both.
Best wishes | |
