My battle report for Game 01. Enjoy.
PS: I took the liberty of naming a Recruit... hope you don't mind!
========================================Game 01: Not your typical Orks…
He was barely a human jerky, his legs long gone and his arms useless with age. His body now entrapped in a grav-chair, his only companion his assistant Tobias. Tobias was a promising young star in the Xeno Biology circles, and becoming attached to Xeno Magus Biologist Holcade was quite an achievement. Tobias only bad trait was incessant chatting, that not even his quasi-death state could minimize. Yes, after the plasma incident, Tobias was now reduced to a Servo-Skull; a Holocam Servo-Skull to be precise. His duty was to record his Masters observations. Part of his brain was retained, thus Tobias knew almost by instinct what to record and what not, but had no idea when to shut up and stop spamming Holcade’s direct link screen. The old man had become a hermit, semi-retired now to the city of Melkor to study the surviving local insect population. Unknown to him, he would be the only witness to a planetary changing event.
He sent Tobias out to record images and sound in secrecy. No point of alerting the locals of his study and calling attention to himself. It was very curious that during the last few weeks, people have been harder to find. Tobias roamed the city, when he spotted some movement. Moving to a higher ground, it remained immobile and transmitted data back to the lab.
Colonel DaBank took his Last Chances in a recon mission, near the western subsection of Melkor. It still amazed him how different the place was, compared to the beaches of Rincon at the northern continent. Here, it was all shades of grey with the occasional brown thrown to it. In the 14 hours march, they have not seen a living soul… only three semi-functional Sanitation Servitors cleaning the ever-dirty streets of the residential area. His thoughts were interrupted all of the sudden…
- ‘What is it this time Magoo, an ant crawling in top of a worm at 500 meters?’ the Colonel spat.
- ‘Huh… I’m confused Sir. You better take a look at it.’
Lifting his lagun’s scope he saw them; Orks. They have seen them in battle before, and these seemed rather small and pathetic. Then, he saw the reason for Private Magoo’s doubts. Before he could call him, Sergeant Pepper said,
- ‘By the Emperors’ Holy Light… I know this could be considered a heresy, but… aren’t those Boyz running on formation? This is either an abomination, or the biggest coincidence the Emperor could conceive in his Holy Mind.’
- ‘No matter. Look for the bigger one and drop him. They will scatter.’
- ‘Sir, that is what I was referring…’ interrupted Magoo. ‘The bigger one of the group is stupid. I mean, more than usual. They all seem to run in a clear advance formation 34-Alpha even with forward scouts… yet the bigger is out of formation and one seems like he painted himself all white. He may as well swallow a couple of plasma grenades and get it over with.’
Magoo was right… the bigger Ork was wearing a complete body suit white war-paint. This is very odd behavior, even for Orks. Then again, all Xenos are scum and there is nothing like being out of camouflage to get shot easier. The Colonel split his men in two fire-teams and ordered them to move to counter-formation. Suddenly a couple loud explosions halted all movement. The smoke cleared, and Private George Michael was on the ground, groggily picking his Flamer up. The Gamma Team was under fire. Sergeant Salt saw a couple of scout Kommandos up inside the building. He could hear them snickering, like little girls who saw a cute boy.
- ‘Flush ‘em out boys! Flank formation.’
While he moved inside the ruined building, while three of his men flank the sides. Lasguns hit the Ork, making barely stumble… until a grenade was thrown blowing half of the second floor. The Ork lay under a pile of rubble, most likely dead. The other Kommando hid, trying still to make George Michael blow up in flames.
The Colonel was accompanied by Lieutenant Dan and his personal Medic, Hawkeye. Their Ecco Team was in position, ready for the assault. Taking defensive positions behind some piled rubble, they started shooting. Two Boyz drop like the dog-piles they are… but the mob was growing quickly. Many others were advancing in a hurry. Unknown to the Colonel, a small group of the enemy had flanked them, lead by one who seemed madder than any others. Once they moved around the building, they were surprised at their proximity. Veterans of many encounters, they recognized their leader as a Weirdboy, just as he shot some deadly rays from his eyes. Most of his men were covered by the deadly light, but they seemed completely unharmed.
Almost at the same time, Private George Michael’s flamer went of… loud screams could be heard as the smell of burned Ork flesh seemed everywhere. It got mixed with the burnt of human hair, as a Burna Boy spat some flame at the Colonel’s makeshift stronghold. Only the Colonel suffered minor wounds, but he quickly dismissed them and kept on shooting his lasgun.
The Orks seemed to be sacrificing Boyz as a diversion. DaBank could see him now… the Ork Boss was not painted white. He was an albino. At that moment he saw him in full form. His inhuman muscles gleaming with sweat, his form advancing with purpose. He was actually directing the others on how and where to move. Every Ork seemed stumbling with every step, as if they had never seen organized combat. The Colonel was sure that once they got their formations right, they may become a force to be reckoned with.
The choice now was clear. The Last Chancers had to retreat. They were not ready for a full Ork assault of this magnitude. The Colonel would gather their men, and destroy the Albino and his Orks on his own terms. Now, he had to figure out what would become of his mission.
Tobias transmitted data like there was no tomorrow. Most of it was ignored by the Magos, but eventually the core transmission would call his eye. Was this a new breed of Orks? What would be the consequences of their existence for the Imperium. Is the Albino responsible for the missing men or is this an isolated incident? Would the Colonel divert his men to deal with the upcoming Ork menace or stick to the original rescue plan? Only time will tell…
