| ashton, i'll have to pull you up on the facts about a gun ban in australia. I am not aware of one as recently as a year ago, possibly the greatest one in our history was in the late 90's after the port arthur massacre, where a single man [who was a bit nuts mind you] killed 35 people and injured 37. following that automatic and semiautomatic rifles and shotguns were outlawed. a few years ago, after a student took a few pistols to school and shot someone, the ban was extended to pistols as well.
as far as the 300% increase in armed homocide, we've only just managed to imprison several gang/underworld leaders responsible for a ten year gangland war. most of the victims of this were shot, so rather than being 'garden variety' type killings [for want of a better word] the situation was an unsual one, and unless the statistics are viewd in this regard a different picture will be painted.
btw, they've actually made a tv series about the gangland war, it's called "Underbelly". Just before it was due to be aired, the surpreme court banned it's airing in victoria due to an ongoing murder trial for someone associated with the killings. it only served to increase it's popularity and has probably seen by half the state already. I just love how a series about the underworld can only be seen by viewing it illegaly. |

That is definitely ironic.
I have heard about the statistics in Australia. They are ridiculous. Similar statistics like that have been seen in other countries as well.
I hate politics as the differences in opinions can ruin a perfectly good friendship, and for that reason I am always very open minded and non-confrontational. I definitely am glad for my friendships I've created in this community, and would like to keep them. That being said, (and I'm sure this applies to everyone who speaks their political views in this forum) please understand these are solely opinions of what I think is best. No need for hating =]
The point is Law-Abiding citizens will follow the rules of gun bans, while Criminals won't (obviously). Criminals love nothing more than to have victims that can't defend themselves; "easy street." The worst message to tell criminals is that "No law abiding citizens own guns."
I never used to care too much about guns; until I found out about www.frontsight.com and took a course with them. ( I now am on their web team, and I programmed this quiz. which is why I posted it.) I prefer to "be prepared" for the worst.
Anyway, there's my thoughts,
