PostSubject: Wyrdstone Counters By Ashton Sanders   Thu 22 May 2008 - 0:01

I made these Wyrdstone Counters out of Broken pieces of glass. I wrote a little How to Make Wyrdstone Counters tutorial on my blog Wink They are definitely hard to get a good picture of (not to mention unrealistically large, but I really didn't like the small ones).

Two thing you can help me with:

How do I glue the glass to pink foam? (Do you think PVA will work on glass?)
How should I "seal" the paint on so it doesn't rub off? in handling?

Thanks,
Ashton Sanders

(oh yea, I guess these count as models(?))

I honestly think that they look awesome! thumbsup

What I wonder is: Is it easy to cut yourself when touching the glass or did you file it so the edges are not so sharp?

@forum: I put my markers (banners, artefacts...) into scenery since I think that fits much better.

Wonderful work Ashton! thumbsup

The best wyrdstone-counters I've seen!

If you want to glue them on, "seal" the base with wood glue (thinned down a bit) and then simply use super glue. Due to the seal of wood glue, the super glue won't melt the foam.

COOL! Little fluff pieces like these really add so much to a gaming board, AND these turned out SO NICE. And, good job on the cobblestones. WELL DONE! thumbsup

To attach the broken glass to a foam base, I'd use either Tacky PVA [Elmer's make a Tacky glue] or, if a cluster was being glued, my trusty, hot glue gun. There is now a crazy glue made by Zap that is formulated for use on pink/blue foam; it's available from www.micromark.com .

Thanks for all the tips and Comments. I'm glad you like them as much as I do Wink I think they're even cooler in person because the light shines through them pretty well. =]

sorry, I missed that: I don't know exactly why, but the glass is not sharp at all (at least not sharper than a lot of mini's metal swords). You'd really have to work to get cut by them. It may be because they've been rubbing against eachother in a plastic bag for 7 years, or maybe a special kind of break-away glass... no idea

What do you mean? like Putting rocks (scenery) on the small base? or building wyrdstone into your terrain? or bigger bases?

LOL. I meant the "scenery" sub-forum of the Gallery. Try reading it again. I hope you get what I was trying to say.

WOW! I think I can safely say these are BY FAR the most awesome wyrdstone shards I have EVER seen.

Honestly.

Hats off to you Sir!

[EDIT]: Use matt varnish to "seal" the paint and prevent it from getting rubbed off.

These are really cool. I think I'm going to make up a few myself when I get the chance. Thanks for the tutorial!

Varnish eh? do you think that will prevent light from shining through it?

What do you think about Shiny varnish? Wink

EDIT: @cianty haha Yes, I get it now, into the scenery section! I agree. Will do.

Matt is not "opaque"

Try the shiny one if you want, but I fear it will ruin the effects you have so beautifully painted.

You could use brush on Matte finish if you want to play it safe AND these pieces are just too nice to take chances. Suspect
