Here are a few front and back snaps of a few buildings that I'm about to paint (some also need the timber slats glued around the outsides too)

Comments/criticisms welcome.

Something I've forgotten to do to these buildings is put in some inside walls and make separate rooms. its a little too open at the moment. I'll just glue in a piece of foamboard with a door in it halfway through a couple of the rooms.

Cool stuff.

Some small details would make it even better.

Looking forward to seeing the painted buildings!

I'll be working on them a little more today so may almost be ready to paint by the end of the day.

@Erkwin: I'll be including a few plaster cast details. If the second last pic wasn't so bad you'd see a small crate and a few sandbags/sacks in there. I'll try to take better pictures next time. I've still got plenty of barrels, crates and sandbags so it'll be quite easy to add small details to these buildings.

Cheers ~ Steve

it looks great man!I really like your building style. It's clean and realistic.

My only "grt" is the roof tiles. They are just too large/random for me.

Very good job. Can't wait to see some paint Wink

Righto.. I've just glued all the slats onto one more of the buildings. The roof will be next. But here it is..

I know the door at the top floor doesn't make any sense but it's there for game-play not realism. A couple of things that I keep forgetting to do is to glue support beams where the floors overhang and also put in some interior walls.

@Ashton: Yeah, I agree. I just do them big and random like that because it takes waaaay too long any other way.. If I've got time I'll post pics of some older smaller buildings that took much longer than any of my newer ones because of the roof.. That took me ages.

Wow man, you really crank these out. Good job.

I like the Floorboards Wink

And an idea for the "door on the top floor": It can be a door to a balcony.... that's been destroyed. All you neeed to do is glue a couple broken peices of wood sticking out of where the balcony used to be connected to the wall.

Why do all of your buildings do this huge overhang thing? Is it just how you've seen them? or is it for gameplay?

Good work.

@Ashton: I like the balcony idea.. Would only take minutes to represent as well. I like the old tavern-style overhangs because it adds character - it kinda looks random and wierd which is what Mordheim is about! My next building that I've cut the pieces out for only has one small overhang. It also allows wider alleys without the table looking like it needs more scenery.

Here's a couple of shots of the building with the roof.

Front

Back

I've just blu-tac'd a couple of supports to hold up the roof piece while the glue dries. Once the first lot of glue is dry I'll take the supports out and probably put another bit of glue in the gaps. There aren't any roof tiles yet. I'm thinkin I'm only going to glue a few random ones here and there just to add to the ruined effect. I may perhaps add rubble to the top floor under the ruined parts of the roof.

Cheers ~ Steve

I'm really looking forward to painting these. I'm going to wait until I've made enough buildings for a whole table before I do though. There's just something about changing what you're doing then losing motivtion to do what you were originally doing if that makes sense. Razz

Wow! Yea, great work on that roof-bracing. It looks freaking awesome. I really like the way you pulled that off. GJ

lol!
I take the same approach;i.e., I get EVERYTHING assembed, primed, and ready for the finishing touches, THEN I become overwhelmed by the whole thing. Suspect

Gaming > Realism

I think I'd rather have a table that's fun to play on/promotes a well-rounded game than one where I think "Wow, this sure is realistic. Too bad I can't shoot at anything or move around in the buildings very well..."

I must say I LOVE the clean lines of your buildings. It looks very clean in its construction, while at the same time it looks very ruined and Mordheim-ish. Hopefully that makes sense...

Looking forward to seeing these painted!

Well said. I totally agree, although I'll add:

Gaming + Cool looking > Gaming > Realism

Hah, you've got me there Ashton. We can't forget the visual element to gaming! Stuff has to look cool to keep our attention nowadays...oh how far we've come from a few books shoved under a table cloth for a board. Smile
