As explained in the Introduction forum, im completely new to Mordheim, and therefore also new to making terrain more detailed than a hill. Im afraid I won't be happy with the results at first, but everyone has to start somewhere. Im starting with the game table.

My game table is gonna be modular and this is the first piece. It's big enough to hold several buildings and play varied games, but still small enough to keep me going creating it. The plan for this first section is a flat piece of town covered in cobblestones. It also has a waterway running through it. Buildings will be on square bases with nice transitions to the cobblestones so they can be placed randomly without looking out of place.

Enough talk! Here's some pictures of my very first homemade gametable. I still have to pen up a million cobblestones, but the results from testing makes it seem worth the time.

The entire first piece of the table

Looks like the start of a great table. The manhole cover is priceless! Awesome job! The cobblestones look pretty damn good to me. If you keep up with that quality this will be a very bad-ass gaming table. I lookward to seeing this project evolve. Great work so far! thumbsup

Thanks! The "paint job" is a bit sloppy though, just had to see how the cobblestones would turn out before I spent more time on it hehe. Will put alot of time in the final paint job and add alot of details.

BTW: Anyone know where I can buy small rats and other Mordheimish stuff?

Bravo! The manhole is a great idea (consider it stolen Wink)! Thanks for sharing.

I just did some tests on Pink foam for different kinds of stones:

That way we can steal ideas from each other and call it even Laughing

Looking good! Was thinking about varying the stones a little but don't know how it would look when placing the terrain. I don't want my (future) scenery to be restricted to certain parts of the board, so I have to think of something to make it work Smile

Of course, feel free to use my ideas Very Happy I sure am gonna "look for inspiration" around here myself Wink

VERY NICE WORK! thumbsup
Love that Man-hole cover! The cobble stones look great. I like the idea of a variety of random colored stones [that's how I'm going to do my next board]; it DOES, however, take a bit more time [check out the base on that disreputable old guy to the left Suspect ]
Keep posting; it's going to be a trip following your progress.

Thanks! rendeer

Haven't really figured out the paint scheme yet but I doubt I'll be going for different kinds of stones, since it would take forever. Maybe I'll do it in some areas Very Happy I think im going for a grey base covered in lots of browns (dirt) and splat some blood pools here and there. Add leaves and moss +++ Can't wait to get started. Going to pen up more cobblestones today. If I make good progress I'll probably post it for fun Smile

You may already be thinking this, but I figure it can't hurt mentioning: In your picture you have some cobblestones that look like they were drybrushed red (they only have "blood" on top of the stone). Dirt and blood will fill in cracks very well... if there is enough blood it will travel through the cracks; painting the cracks a dark red and leaving the top of the cobble stones grey.

I can't wait to see what you do!

EDIT:

I hear you. I only make extremely modular things that will work for whatever. I think that since there are sooo many different types of stones/tiles, no matter where you put your buildings it won't look horrible. I think if you made Huge patches of stones, like roads, then it may look odd...

Anyway, I guess I'll post when I get around to doing it. Good luck

Aye Smile The red stones was just a test of how the new washes work. That was one layer, and in reality it already seems like its running through the cracks so I think the result will be good with some more washing.

Your idea about it running in the cracks only is a good one! I'll try that also. The "problem" with this is that I think the blood would need to come from a source since it's fresh enough to run through the crakcs rather than just an old stain. But this only leads to more creativity and details so thanks for putting the idea into my head Very Happy

*mumbles something about cobblestones..* (sooooooo much left)

Im getting more and more motivated to try a little diversity in the stones :p

A little progress has been made, but not much. Too busy shopping stuff. Still waiting for styrofoam and stuff for buildings, but have to finish the table first. Here's a few shots to make the thread more interesting Smile

Cobblestone progress. Still along way to go. This was about 4 hours of work.

Gathering some stuff

Another shot of the warband, and you can also see the cobblestones pretty good
