PostSubject: Scavenger's 1st WIP post...   Fri 30 May 2008 - 16:20

This is a building, probably an Inn, I've been working on for a couple of weeks based on an idea I sketched during a game.
All the measurements are taken from a series of designs that I’m going to use to produce modular building components, that I hope to eventually sell as kits. As such it’s a bit of a test piece.

Hope you like. I will post more pictures as work progresses…

Cheers ta.

VERY NICE! All sorts of interestimg angles, it looks like it "grew" from a smaller structure. The walk-way between the building s the doulbe doors leading to the balcony are just beautiful. An excellent piece of work to steal ideas from, erm...admire. Suspect

Keep posting as the work progresses. It wil be cool not just to see how it turns out, but how you got there. Again WELL DONE! thumbsup

Bravo. thumbsup

WOW! Absolutely beautiful!

That is a freaking beautiful concept-to-reality project you've done there. I love how much character you put into that building, and how freaking perfect it is. You absolutely must expand on how you created this! What did you use on the edges of the foam core?

Good work!

Oh-my-f*****g-god!

...

I love it! There is something... incredible about this piece. To me it looks a little... "alive". Seriously, this building looks so authentic and... don't know. I guess you simply met my taste. Please keep posting more pictures as you progress. Thanks for sharing!

EDIT: What the f**k?! f*****g censorship on this f*****g forum? Aww, f**k that! ... Alright, kids, you may now remove your hands from your ears, it's over.

I forgot to ask [a frequent problem with moi, forgetting that is] are you going to have the lower raised pieces with the staris et al & the hanged guy swinging from the connecting walk way? That would be SO COOL [hint, hint]. thumbsup

This building looks great! Wow! I love the look of the "continuous architecture" style buildings. This one is spot on.

Any idea how much time you have invested in construction so far?

Thank you all so much for your comments and interest in my first post here. I feel most welcome.

Do you mean along the broken edges? That’s a textural “medium” I mix up myself in different thicknesses, using various diy supplies, to represent daub, plaster/stucco etc.

The lower raised pieces: yes, working on them at the moment. The hanging guy: maybe, I’ll see how I feel about it at the time. I’m also intending to have the ground floor rooms boarded up from the outside and then place green LEDs inside for an eerie “warp tainted” glow. Kind of a bit corny maybe, but I like corny damn it!

I’ve been steadily working on it for one to two hours most days out of the last two weeks. Still quite a ways to go aswell.

I will get some more photos up as soon as there is noticeable progress, probably early in the week. I’ll also include some close-ups of various features to help shed a little more light on some of my techniques.

Thanks again for all your comments…

Cheers ta.

Thanks again for all your comments and questions.
Haven’t had much time to work on this, but I’ve finished about 98% of the wood work on this side of the building. Just need to add a bit of ruined floor to the inside of the upper level and some remnants of roof, which I’ll do once the outside is textured and then its all primed and base coated.
So here are some pics of what I’ve managed to get done over the last few day.
Wood work takes forever!!

I’ll post more as work progresses.

Cheers ta.

Cheers guys, really glad you like it… though I’m not sure I should post any more photos if it’s gonna make cianty cry!!

Yes it is. I buy it in planks (¼“ & 3/8“ thicknesses, the cheapest way to buy it if you use a lot), cut it to size with a balsa stripper and then attack it with a wire brush to give it that nice aged timber look.

Thanks once again for all your comments, very much appreciated.

A few more progress pics, work on this piece seems to be getting increasingly slower...

Hope you like. I'll try to update this a bit more regularly from now on. I've never been very good at this whole contributing to forums type thing, I'm more of a spectator!

Cheers ta.

JUST BEAUTIFUL! thumbsup

I LOVE everything about them, but especially the woodwork. I usually use a course razor saw to rip the grain, but I like the effect you get from wire brushing better. It's a really excellent effect. I'm also crazy [obviously] about the height, & the interesting angles that you have come up with. Excellent work, Bravo, & stuff like that!

Freaking amazing. I absolutely love how you create your buildings. I would love to hear/see the process you go through for these buildings. Great work.

What did you use for the "bolts" on the door?

Are you going to add any ladders to get up to the different layers? or will that be up to the payers with the "modular ladders"?

it's absolutley brilliant. well done on making an amazing to look at yet conceptually simple building that would also offer great gameplay. You don't seem to have used any advanced methods or materials but you've still taken basic building to a higher level. thumbsup
that's a great idea for texturing with a wire brush.

i'm looking forward to seeing this painted.

i'm going to have to start making mine to this detail. kudos
