How often do u see anyone using these? ...or take the "hunter" skill for that matter??

Some time ago I saw a proposal by some other gamer to play with the following houserule:

Handsguns & Hochland Longrifle - has +1 S when shooting at a target within half-range...

I kind of like this suggestions, since it would mean that a handgun / rifle would still not be that great vs. normal guys ...but would rather be a specialist support weapon vs. the big tough guys (high T or armour save).

what do u guys think?

I have the feeling this might be slightly overpowered for us Dwarves. It will be a massive advantage and something that won't affect half of the other races. Dwarves are already pretty damn awesome to begin with, while I'd quite like to see them murder everyone even more easily, I don't think this one will be fair.

Yes and No ... consider that Kislevits with they gun-rests (only usable with handguns) would be boosted ...and personally I would still prefer a crossbow in 90% of cases ...

ok - another idea to make them more viable then ... - how about scrapping the "Move OR Fire" rule ...(the gun still requires a turn to reload unless u have the hunter skill) - this has the advantage that although dwarven handguns have 6'' better range...the dwarves with their M3 will not benefit as much from this rule as say reicklanders or kislevites with their M4.

Thing is just - At the rules stand now noone rational (well except maybe kislevites) would ever consider handguns and that only really if there are a lot of heavy armoured (high AS) opponents ...

what do u think?

I think either option is valid. Personally I like the +1 strength at half range better.

Another idea is to remove -move-or-fire but make them more inaccurate, with a -2 to hit when moving...

I have to admit that I LOVE black powder weapons; I've even made a couple of real ones. They look so incredibly cool in miniature. From my biased point of view, I think [rarely] it would be great if there was a viable way to include them within the game in a viable/cost effiencent way.

yeah because as of now they are definately NOT worth the cost ...Handguns are only really usefull to take down heavy armoured units, but unless you are talking a gromrill armoured guy or hvy armour + horse & barding the disadvantage of firing at half speed vs. a crossbow just aint worth it ...Ofcause the Rifle has one other small advantage which "might" make it attractive in certain situations ...but 200gc? - I would not see myself buy one of those anytime soon.

I've been considering this. The +1 strength might be viable. Its rare that you get within that range and have a chance to shoot due to cover. It certainly does make sense. Its a slow weapon, however the only reason for its ue in real life originally was its superior 'strength' so maybe it is a fair rule.
