Chat box

if you ask me the chatbox isn't really used, is it?
and if no one uses it, it only takes un-needed time to load if you ask me.
but if you use it, or have other opinions, i'd love to hear them Smile

I think it is quite handy, but in bottom of the page, most of the people dont even see it ..

Yea... I have tried using it... but... it really doesn't get used... maybe putting it on it's own page and linking to it from the nav bar? maybe saying how many people are in the chat room?

I don't know... some thoughts

or, another possibility, when you log in to the forum, the chat box automaticly signs you in. you can leave though, but i think more people will just chat a bit before leaving. what about that?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I remember a time when we had a similar discussion and I actually took the chatbox off the forum for a while. Then we decided to put it back on, because "it can't hurt".

Unfortunately the things you suggested (putting the chatbox on another page, logging in automatically) can't be done... or else I would have done so long ago. The thing is, this chatbox is a feature provided by the company that provides the server space for this forum. I do not have access to the html code or any other source code. All I can do is "Add/Remove" the chatbox, customize its look a little ("Colour Palette") and move it around on the page ("Layout"). That's it.

The thing with this Chatbox is that it logs you off outomatically when you stay "idle" for some time (I think it is 10-15mins).

I will look again if there is any way of keeping people logged in all the time (I think that would really revive the chatbox) but be aware that this might seriously influence loading time.

I would like to seize the occasion to ask informally how many of you are experiencing problems while loading this page (or TBMBlog). Does the loading time stay within reason, or is it really painfully long?
